The Amethyst Academy is a powerful organization of mages dedicated to the study and preservation of arcane knowledge.

Where others see catastrophe, the Academy sees opportunity.

They believe delerium is not merely a remnant of disaster, but a new frontier of arcane understanding.

Public Mission

The Academy’s official objectives in Drakkenheim are:

The Academy views delerium not as a divine omen nor a curse, but as an arcane phenomenon requiring disciplined study.

They claim their purpose is not conquest, but mastery.

Doctrine: The Edicts of Lumen

The Academy operates under the Edicts of Lumen, ancient arcane laws governing the training and regulation of magic.

Their position is clear:

When confronted about taking magically gifted children from Westemär, Academy representative River did not deny the practice.

She described it as:

“Not cruelty. Containment. Discipline. Survival.”

The Academy does not apologize for harsh necessity.

Known Leadership

River has demonstrated both extensive knowledge of delerium behavior and a willingness to employ independent operatives to recover specimens from dangerous locations.

Her methods suggest the Academy closely monitors developments within Drakkenheim.

Reputation in Emberwood

The Academy maintains a reserved presence in Emberwood Village, preferring controlled interactions over overt displays of power.

Current Activity in Drakkenheim

The Academy continues to expand its research footprint in the Outer City.

Known efforts include:

River previously commissioned the recovery of a large delerium specimen beneath the Rat’s Nest Tavern.

The party successfully retrieved the crystal using an arcane containment device provided by the Academy.

The specimen appeared stable enough for transport and may represent a valuable research opportunity.

River emphasized discretion in handling the sample, noting that other factions may take interest in unusually large deposits.

The Academy appears particularly interested in specimens that demonstrate unusual structural integrity or growth patterns.

More recently, River extended a second commission: the recovery of research, journals, and spellbook materials from Oscar Yoren, a former Academy researcher believed to have survived a decade of Haze exposure through unauthorized means. The Academy considers Yoren’s methods of particular interest.

That commission remains open.

What They Want

Access to delerium deposits.

Reliable operatives capable of navigating the ruins.

Accurate data regarding contamination effects.

Discretion.

Party Status

A Conditional Relationship

Following the party’s most recent dealings with the Academy, the relationship has cooled.

A second commission — the recovery of research materials from Oscar Yoren — was not fulfilled. The party returned without spellbook, notes, or specimens, having instead entered into a separate arrangement with Yoren himself.

River’s response was measured. She withheld the agreed payment and the offered boon. She did not raise her voice. She described the conversation as clarifying the arrangement rather than ending it.

The party has been given thirty days to deliver Yoren’s spellbook, notes, or head. Until that obligation is met, Academy favor is conditional.

“I am not angry. I am clarifying our arrangement.”

The Academy continues to be willing to hire the party for work. The warmer relationship that had been developing has been deferred.
